Getting a Bit Healthier

Well, it's that time of year again (actually it has been for a few weeks) where the weather is chilly and the comfort (aka fatty foods) are calling. BUT, it's time to cut back on some of the calories around here for Mom and Dad so we're going a "bit" healthier this week and hope to get a lot more healthier within the next few weeks.

Sunday - Oven "fried" (not fried but tastes like it) chicken wings and dings, noodles, and corn.
Monday - Homemade nachos with turkey meat
Tuesday - Grilled cheese with homemade chicken noodle soup (crock pot)
Wednesday - Noni will be here so perhaps subs ...
Thursday - Firehouse Chili (because of our Fire Department field trip this day and also in the crock pot)
Friday - Tuna Casserole and chopped salad
Saturday - Leftover Buffet

We'll be making homemade "gingerbread" houses with graham crackers, vanilla frosting, and assorted sweets later this week.

We've also just discovered the wonders of Smoothies! Our favorite (super simple) recipe so far is:

1 1/2 c. vanilla yogurt
2 c. 2% milk
3 tsp. Honey
1 banana
10-12 frozen whole strawberries
1 handful of frozen blueberries

Dump everything into blender. Pulse a couple of times to break up the strawberries, blend for 30 seconds, set on liquefy for 30 more seconds and serve. Wonderful at breakfast or for a snack!

We're linking up this week again with Organizing Junkie for Menu Plan Monday!
